<p> a German fanatical peasant, known also by the name of Peringer der Schuster, and of the country of Wohrd, lived at the commencement of the 16th century. He made a great uproar at the time of the Reformation, by denouncing the pope. He preached for the first time at Wohrd, in 1524. Being banished from [[Nuremberg]] on the complaint of the archduke Ferdinand, at the council held in that city, he fixed his residence at Kitzingen, in Franconia.
