He accompanied [[Francis]] de Mendoza, bishop of Jaen, to Rome, and after his death went to [[Germany]] to combat the errors of the Protestants. [[Charles]] V sent him to the [[Council]] of Trent, and in 1548 nominated him to the bishopric of Guadix, in Granada; thence he was translated to the see of Segovia, and on his return from [[Trent]] he was, in 1564, made archbishop of Valentia, which [[Church]] he governed till his death, Aug. 5, 1566.
