Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible [1]
Me-Zahab (‘waters of gold’). Father of Matred and grandfather of Mehetabel the wife of Hadar (Hadad), one of the kings of Edom ( Genesis 36:39 ). The name Mezahab is much more like that of a place than of a person. Holzinger suggests that it is the same name as appears in a corrupted form in Deuteronomy 1:1 as Dizahab (wh. see).
International Standard Bible Encyclopedia [2]
mez´a - hab , me - zā´hab ( זהב מי , mē zāhābh , "waters of gold"; Codex Vaticanus Μαιζοώβ , Maizoṓb , Codex Alexandrinus, Μεζοόβ , Mezoób ): Grandfather of Mehetabel, the wife of Hadar, the last-mentioned "duke" of Edom descended from Esau ( Genesis 36:39 ). The Jewish commentators made much play with this name. Abarbanel, e.g., says he was "rich and great, so that on this account he was called Mezahab, for the gold was in his house as water." The name, however, may denote a place, in which case it may be identical with Dizahab.
