Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible [1]
Girzites . Acc. to 1 Samuel 27:8 , David and his men’ while living at the court of Achish king of Gath, ‘made a raid upon the Geshurites and the Girzites (RVm [Note: Revised Version margin.] Gizrites ) and the Amalekites: for those nations were the inhabitants of the land, which were of old, as thou goest to Shur, even unto the land of Egypt.’ The Lxx [Note: Septuagint.] (B) is probably correct in reading only one name ‘Gizrites’ for ‘Geshurites and Girzites,’ viz. the Canaanite inhabitants of Gezer (wh. see), a town on the S.W. border of Ephraim ( Joshua 10:33; Joshua 16:3; Joshua 16:10 , Judges 1:29 ).
