a -lı̄´a ( עליה , ‛alyāh ): One of the dukes, or heads of thousands of Edom (1 Chronicles 1:51 ). In Genesis 36:40 the name is Alvah ( עלוה , ‛alwāh ), the only difference being the change of the weaker ו , v , of Gen to the somewhat stronger, י , y , of the later Chronicles, a change which is not infrequent in Hebrew. He is not to be confused, as in HDB , with the Alian of the same chapter.
