Ridiger was one of those prelates who opposed all measures of the Austrian government which tended towards depriving the [[Church]] of any of her prerogatives. Riidiger only knew one government, the supremacy of the Church. When the dogma, of the Immaculate Conception was proclaimed he celebrated that event by building a splendid cathedral at Linz, and erecting monasteries throughout his diocese. (B.P.) </p>
