James Brown [1]
a preacher of the United Methodist Free Church, was born in April 1828, at Rochester, Kent, of Wesleyan parents. He was converted under the ministry of Reverend Joseph New, who, when he went as a missionary to Africa, sent for his young friend as a teacher in the African school, and Brown soon became a school inspector there.
