He is accused of having given orders for putting out the eyes of his natural brother, Giulio d'Este, through jealousy. He was the political counsellor and lieutenant of his brother Alfonso, who had become duke of [[Ferrara]] in 1505. He contributed to the destruction of the Venetian fleet, December 22, 1509.
