a Presbyterian minister, was born at Parsippany, Morris County, N.J., November 9, 1821. He prepared for college at home, entered the sophomore class at Princeton, from which he graduated in 1850; then from the Princeton Theological Seminary in 1853, remaining there one year longer as tutor.
