RIE (the AV [Note: Authorized Version.] spelling of ‘rye’ ) occurs twice ( Exodus 9:32 , Isaiah 28:25 ) in AV [Note: Authorized Version.] as rendering of kussemeth , which in Ezekiel 4:9 is rendered ‘fitches.’ In all three passages RV [Note: Revised Version.] has ‘spelt,’ Whatever kussemeth was, it was neither true rye, which is a cereal unknown in Palestine, nor spelt.
