He finally determined to relinquish secular life and devote himself to the work of aiding in the spread of the [[Gospel]] among the heathen, and for that purpose went to the [[Sandwich]] Islands and was appointed secular superintendent of the missions there. "His various toils were, incessant and most important, as he had judgment, caution, prudence, economy, and self-denial."
