<p> a Presbyterian minister, was born in Beaufort District, S. C., in December, 1791 and was left an orphan when a child. In 1814 he was licensed to preach by the [[Presbytery]] of South Carolina. For many years after he entered the ministry he was occupied in preaching in various parts of his native state. He died Nov. 24, 1850. Dr. Cater published several Sermons and Addresses, among which were two Discourses on Baptism, and one on Temperance. See Sprague, Annals of the Amer. Pulpit, 4:520. </p>

a Presbyterian minister, was born in Beaufort District, S. C., in December, 1791 and was left an orphan when a child. In 1814 he was licensed to preach by the Presbytery of South Carolina. For many years after he entered the ministry he was occupied in preaching in various parts of his native state. He died Nov. 24, 1850. Dr. Cater published several Sermons and Addresses, among which were two Discourses on Baptism, and one on Temperance. See Sprague, Annals of the Amer. Pulpit, 4:520.
