In 1851 he was ordained to the work of the ministry, and for a time was pastor of the Richland Church. For many years he was moderator of the [[Ebenezer]] Association, also a trustee of Mercer University, and a member of the Executive Committee of the [[Georgia]] Baptist Convention. a Baptist minister, was born in Nash County, N. C., Dec. 18, 1795. In 1817 he moved to Twiggs County, Ga., where he spent the rest of his days. Being prospered in the secular pursuits in which, for a number of years, he was engaged, he was able to gratify his benevolent desires to promote the interests of God and humanity. After occupying positions of civil trust for several years, he made an open profession .of his faith, and united with the Church in 1837.
