He graduated from Middlebury [[College]] in 1814, and afterwards entered the [[Andover]] Theological Seminary, from which he graduated in 1817. He was ordained and settled over the First Church, Utica, N.Y., Feb. 3, 1818, where he stood as a strong, earnest, and successful pastor until 1835. In that year he was installed pastor of the First Presbyterian [[Church]] of Cleveland, O. In 1858 he resigned his charge, but continued to reside in [[Cleveland]] until his death, Jan. 1, 1879.
