a Baptist divine, was born at Framingham, Mass., Sept. 1, 1812, and was a graduate: of Brown University in the class of 1833. He was tutor in the university two years after his graduation, carrying on at the same time his theological studies under Dr. Wayland. In 1836 he was ordained pastor of the Baptist Church in Haverhill, Mass., where he had a successful ministry of twenty-three years.
