He received a good academical training, graduated at Jefferson [[College]] in 1848, and at the [[Associate]] Theological Seminary at Canonsburg, Pa., in 1851; was licensed by the Associate [[Presbytery]] of Chartiers in 1852, and ordained and installed pastor of the Mount Pleasant [[Church]] April 25, 1853. He died Dec. 16, 1861. Mr. [[Thompson]] was a popular preacher, a constant worker, and a tender and thoughtful pastor. See Wilson, Presb. Hist. Almanac, 1863, p. 365. </p>
