D.D., LlD a Congregational minister, was born April 19, 1776, in Ipswich, Mass.; graduated at Harvard College in 1794; entered the ministry, and was ordained pastor in Milton, Mass., Nov. 1, 1797; resigned Oct. 3, 1804; was elected professor of mathematics in Harvard College in 1806, but declined, and was chosen Boylston professor of rhetoric in 1809. He remained in this position until his health failed. He died at Havana March 17, 1818. He published a Memoir of the Rev. John Eliot, S.T.D., in the Hist.
