In 1825 he was admitted to the [[Tennessee]] Conference, and served his [[Church]] for eighteen years as editor of the Southern [[Christian]] Advocate; seventeen years as book agent; four years as secretary of [[Domestic]] Missions, and eight as secretary of Foreign Missions.
