D.D., a Presbyterian minister, was born June 1, 1816, at Salem, N.J., graduated from Middlebury College, Vermont, in 1838; from Union Theological Seminary, New York, in 1844; was immediately licensed by the New York Presbytery, and soon after entered upon the duties of his first charge at Eastville, Northampton County, Virginia; accepted a call to the Central Church, Brooklyn, in 1847; three years later took charge of the Church at Hempstead, Long Island, N.Y., and there labored until 1860, when failing health compelled him to seek for a dismission.
