<p> a preacher of the United [[Methodist]] Free Church, was born in April 1828, at Rochester, Kent, of Wesleyan parents. He was converted under the ministry of [[Reverend]] [[Joseph]] New, who, when he went as a missionary to Africa, sent for his young friend as a teacher in the African school, and [[Brown]] soon became a school inspector there. His health failed, and he returned home, and travelled in six English circuits. He died February 6, 1878. See Minutes of 22d Annual Association. </p>
