He graduated at Yale [[College]] in 1786; was ordained by the [[Presbytery]] of Suffolk, L.I., in 1788; called to [[Bottle]] Hill (now Madison), N.J., in 1789; to the First Presbyterian [[Church]] of [[Orange]] in 1801; resigned his charge when he was seventy years of age, and died at Orange, August 28, 1840. During his pastorate at Orange he made a missionary tour through northern [[Pennsylvania]] and western New York, and preached the first sermon ever heard in what is now the city of Auburn.
