He received his literary and theological education at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, and entered the ministry in 1835, in which he spent a laborious and useful life, and died May 24, 1882. He wrote the biography of Dr. Chalmers, and also of Wycliffe, and an interesting history of the Hugutenots, besides several other valuable works. </p>
