TEPHON . One of the towns in Judæa fortified by Bacchides ( 1Ma 9:50 ). Tephon was probably an old Tappuah  ; but whether it was Tappuah 1 or 2 , or Bethtappuah, is uncertain.

International Standard Bible Encyclopedia [2]

tē´fon ( ή Τεφώ , Tephṓ ): In   1 Maccabees 9:50 , a city of Judea fortified by Bacchides, probably the "Beth-tappuah" of  Joshua 15:53 , near Hebron. Josephus ( Ant. , Xii , i, 3) calls it "Tochoa."
