He became superior in the seminary of Pamiers, then adjunct: of the ecclesiastical government of that diocese, and opposed the law which gave the kings of [[France]] the right to use the revenues of the vacant churches in certain cases. The parliament of [[Toulouse]] condemned the writings of Charlas, but he escaped to Rome, where he died, April 7, 1698.
