He graduated from the [[Glasgow]] University, where he obtained three prizes; was licensed to preach in 1820, and appointed assistant and successor at the Free [[Chapel]] of Ease, Glasgow, in 1823; promoted to the third charge at [[Stirling]] in 1824; presented to the living at Lady Yester's Chapel, Edinburgh, in 1835; appointed a chaplain in ordinary to the queen of [[England]] and a dean of the Chapel [[Royal]] in 1841, and died at Dulnoon, September 21, 1846.
