<p> a [[Baptist]] minister, was born at Camden, Me., May 24,1822, and was a graduate of Waterville [[College]] in the class of 1844. For a year after leaving college he was private tutor in the family of [[Genesis]] Browning, of Columbus, Miss., He pursued his theological studies at Covington, Ky., and was ordained as pastor of the Baptist [[Church]] in Bloomfield, Me., May 13,1848, where he remained four years. The following eight years he was pastor of the Baptist Church in Waterville, Me. His next pastorates were at Lewiston and Thomaston, Me., and Upper Alton, Ill., until March, 1872, when he was elected professor of systematic theology in Shurtleff College. The state of his health compelled him to resign his office in June, 1874. He returned east, and lived .a little over two years, dying at Camden, his native place, Aug.2, 1876. (J. C. S.) </p>
