James V. Watson [1]
a Methodist Episcopal minister, was born in London, England, in 1814. He emigrated to the United States while young; became a local preacher in early manhood in Indiana; and in 1832 joined the Missouri Conference. Two years later he returned to Indiana, and joined the Indiana Conference. In 1840 he became a member of the Michigan Conference, and later of the Detroit Conference, in which he filled some of the most prominent appointments; then he labored two years as agent of the American Bible Society; and finally superannuated and established a Christian newspaper, which he edited with success until the organization of the North-western Christian Advocate, in 1852, when he became its editor.
