<p> an eminent Nonconformist divine, was born at Palsley, near Chesterfield, England, November, 1619, and was educated at the public-schools of [[Mansfield]] and Newark. He entered Peterhouse, Cambridge, but being chosen subtutor to the sons of the earl of Suffolk, removed to [[Magdalen]] College, of which he afterwards became fellow senior fellow, and president. In 1648 he-was ordained at London in the Presbyterian form, and in 1652 became minister of St. Mary's, Shrewsbury. At the Restoration, not wishing to be re-ordained, he was ejected, and in 1673 returned to Shrewsbury, and became pastor of a Dissenting congregation there.
