He received a careful home training, graduated in Jefferson College, Pa., studied divinity in the [[Associate]] Seminary in Canonsburg, was licensed by the Chartiers [[Presbytery]] and ordained by the Miami Presbytery in 1839, and his first and only charge was Massey's Creek, O. Here he labored with true apostolic zeal and earnestness, and died Feb. 28, 1861. Mr. Smart was a man of vigorous mind and noble heart. He was for many years stated clerk of the Xenia Presbytery.
