He professed conversion in his sixteenth year, and received license as a local preacher when twenty. In 1824 he was admitted on trial in the Genesee Conference. During his active ministry he served as presiding elder on the Chenango, Cayuga, Susquehanna, and [[Wyoming]] districts; and also five years as chaplain to Auburn state prison. In 1873 he took a superannuated relation, which he held until his death, at Washington, D.C., Oct. 8, 1876. He was for some time previous a member of the Wyoming Conference.
