In 1821 he was elected to the mastership of his college, and in 1832 was appointed to the vice-chancellorship of the University of Oxford; which he held till his death, October 5, 1836. In his official duties he was noted for his punctuality and decision; and in private life he was distinguished for kindness of disposition and unselfishness of character. See (Lond.)
