He took holy orders, and was ordained deacon in 1848; in the year following became assistant curate of St. Chad's, Shrewsbury; in 1855 chaplain in the [[Bengal]] Presidency. During the great [[Sepoy]] rebellion he was shot through the body in the insurrection at [[Lucknow]] and died July 20, 1857. He was a good man, and his loss was greatly deplored in all England, as well as among the English of India.
