He was ordained deacon in 1838; became rector at Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1840; and in 1848 of St. Luke's at Rochester, N.Y., where he was consecrated bishop of Iowa, October 18, 1854. His episcopal residence was at Davenport. Griswold College, located in that place, became the object of his special care. He died September 26, 1874. See Prot. Episc. Almanac, 1875, page 144. </p>
