Lemuel Fordham Leake [1]
a minister of the Presbyterian (O. S.) Church, was born in Chester, Morris County, N. J., and was educated at Princeton College, class of 1814. After graduation he taught two years, then studied theology at Princeton Seminary, was licensed by the Newton Presbytery Oct. 7, 1818, and became pastor of the churches of Oxford and Harmony in 1822. In 1825 he resigned this position, and labored for the missionary interests of the Church. In 1831 he was called to Chartiers Church, at Canonsburg, as successor to Dr. M'Millan, and there he labored until 1850, when he became president of Franklin College, New Athens, Ohio.
