a Scotch prelate, of the same family with the Scottish reformer, was born at Ranfurly, in Renfrewshire. He was educated at Glasgow, was first minister at Lochwinnoch, and then at Paisley. King James made him bishop of the Isles in April, 1606, where he distinguished himself by his attention to the propagation of religion.
