He studied law for some years, and was admitted to the bar in 1800. He joined the Presbyterian [[Church]] in 1811, was licensed to preach in 1816, by the [[Presbytery]] of Ohio, and soon afterwards accepted a call to the Presbyterian Church in Steubenville, Ohio, where he labored with great fidelity and success for six years. and then accepted a call to Washington, Pa. In 1828 he removed to Nashville, Tenn., where he remained till the close of his life, January 12, 1832. See Sprague, Annals of the Amer. Pulpit, 4:549. </p>
