<p> Giron (Garcias de Loycasu), Don Pedro </p> <p> a Spanish prelate and scholar, was born at Talavera in 1542. He was the son of Pedro Giron, member of the [[Council]] of Castile. He pursued his philosophical and theological studies at Alcala. Being appointed canon of Toledo, he became archdeacon of Guadalaxara on the withdrawal of his uncle, [[Lopez]] de Carnajel. In 1585 [[Philip]] II called him to his court as almoner and master of the chapel, and a little later intrusted to him the teaching of his little son, don Philip. In 1596 cardinal [[Albert]] of [[Austria]] appointed him grand-vicar of the archbishopric of Toledo. In 1598 he obtained the title of archbishop of the diocese which he governed.
