<p> a French theologian, was born in 1663, near Aix (Provence). He entered the [[Jesuit]] order, became rector, then provincial, of the [[College]] of the Trinity, at Lyons, where he had completed his studies, and was regarded as the principal promoter of the devotion to the Sacred [[Heart]] of Jesus. In 1723 he became assistant to the general of the Jesuits at Rome. He died about 1740, leaving several works on devotion, for which see Hoefer, Nouv. Biog. Generale, s.v. </p>
