He early devoted himself to monastical life, and after studying under the famous doctor [[Nerses]] Peghlow about fifteen years, left his monastery, which was situated in the isle of Lim, in the centre of the lake of Van, in order to visit Armenia. He planted a great number of institutions of education, and returned to his monastery. The patriarch, [[Moses]] III, sent him out again as director of the patriarchal school of Echmiadzin.
