Under the auspices .of the [[Basle]] Missionary Society, he was laboring in Dacca, Bengal, when he became a Baptist, and was baptized at Tezpur, on the Brahmaputra, Assam, February 4, 1850; and appointed a missionary at Nowgong, on the other side of the river.
