Having studied theology and received license to preach, he went as a supply to Trenton, N.J., in 1735, and in April 1736, became pastor. At the division of the Presbyterian [[Church]] in 1741, Mr. Cowell remained with the old side. On the union of the two synods he joined the New [[Brunswick]] Presbytery, and continued in relation with it until his death, December 1, 1760. See Sprague, Annals of the Amer. Pulpit, 3:66. </p>
