<p> a [[Baptist]] minister, was born at Devonport, England, in 1794, and came to the United States with his parents when he was a child. [[Early]] in life he joined the Church, in Philadelphia, of which [[Reverend]] Dr. [[William]] Staughton was the pastor. His first settlement in the ministry was in Norfolk, Virginia, where he remained from 1817 to 1824, and then took charge of the [[Church]] in Alexandria, sustaining this relation thirteen years. He was next pastor of the Church in Mount Holly, N.J., eleven years, a part of this time acting as agent of the Colonization Society. For several years he preached in different places in Michigan, his last pastorate being at. Ann Arbor.
