He spent his youth amid the quiet and peace of farm life, where he laid the foundation of his blameless, industrious, Christian character. He was employed hi his young manhood by his brother as a manufacturer in [[Massachusetts]] and Rhode Island, at which time he was converted, became a class-leader, and received license to preach, and in 1846 was admitted into the Troy Conference. His last eight years were given to the pastorate of the Congregational [[Church]] at North Pownall, Vermont, where he died May 15, 1878. See Minutes of Annual Conferences, 1879, page 43. </p>
