He studied at Burr Seminary, Manchester, and graduated from the University of [[Vermont]] in 1844; then taught in [[Montpelier]] two years, and graduated from [[Andover]] Theological Seminary in 1850. The next year he was ordained pastor of Pacific Church, New Bedford, Massachusetts; in 1852 was installed at South Dedham (now Norwood), where he remained until 1866; in that year became acting pastor at Waukegan, Illinois; and after a four years' service assumed the same relation to the [[Church]] at St. Joseph, Mich., where he remained until his death, January 26, 1876.
