He learned the first principles of his art from his father, Francisco Lopez, and then went to [[Madrid]] to study at the school of [[Alfonso]] Cano. He made rapid progress, and in 1658 was charged with the entire decoration of the chapel of Sant- Isidoro, in the church of St. Andrew.
