Here he remained four years, then studied theology for five years under the' Rev. [[Archibald]] [[Bruce]] of Whitburn, and was licensed by the Associate [[Presbytery]] of Perth. In 1806 he came to America, and landed at New York, where he remained some time, and then removed to Albany; from here he went to Cambridge, N.
