In 1826 he was appointed bishop of Cloyne, in Ireland, having been previously for many years professor of astronomy in [[Trinity]] College, Dublin. His death occurred September 14, 1835. Dr. Brinkley was eminent for his knowledge of mathematical science and astronomy. He published [[Elements]] of [[Plane]] [[Astronomy]] (1822, 8vo; the 6th edition was edited, with notes, by the [[Reverend]] Dr. Luby). See (Lond.)
