In 1826 he was appointed bishop of Cloyne, in Ireland, having been previously for many years professor of astronomy in [[Trinity]] College, Dublin. His death occurred September 14, 1835. Dr. Brinkley was eminent for his knowledge of mathematical science and astronomy.
