He was first pastor at Salem, Mass., which [[Church]] he served twenty-two years. He was elected corresponding secretary of foreign missions in 1826. In 1841, Dr. BolIes made a missionary tour beyond the Alleghany Mountains. He died, full of faith and hope, Jan. 5, 1844. He published a number of sermons. See Sprague, Annals of the Amer.
