Having removed to [[Indiana]] with his parents in early life, he began, at the age of sixteen, to study law, but decided afterwards to prepare for the ministry, and graduated from [[Brown]] University in 1844. He spent the whole of his ministerial life in the West, being ordained in Chicago, Ill., and subsequently having charge of churches in Wisconsin, Indiana, Kansas, and Missouri. He taught for a time in the Indiana University at Bloomington. His death occurred at Independence, Mo., Nov. 21, 1881. See [[Necrology]] of Brown University, 1881-82.
