He became a [[Christian]] in early life, and began to preach at about the age of twenty among the Calvinistic Baptists. He afterwards joined the Free-will Baptists, became a preacher among them, and was for many years pastor of several small churches of his denomination. His life was one of great activity. Besides his ministerial duties, he had the care of a farm for a time was for two seasons a member of the Ohio legislature, was corresponding editor for a time of one journal and correspondent of others, and lectured on various topics.
